Dr. Andrea Thorn from the Institute of Nanostructure and Solid State Physics has been awarded the "FEBS National Lecture Award" of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies at the "25th Swedish Conference on Macromolecular Structure and Function" in Tällberg, Sweden.
The "National Lectures" of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) recognize the achievements of outstanding scientists with an international reputation.
Distinguished scientists who are internationally recognized for their fundamental contributions to the field of biochemistry and molecular biology are invited as speakers.
Dr. Andrea Thorn devoted her keynote address at the conference to "Structural Biology in the Era of COVID-19." Dr. Thorn leads the international Coronavirus Structural Task Force and conducts research in the Cluster of Excellence "CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter." She is a specialist in developing new methods in crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy. Her team is one of the few structural biology groups with experience in both biological preparation, large-scale instrumentation measurement, and expertise in developing new algorithms and has contributed significantly to the understanding of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus over the past two years.
